Want to earn a seat at the World Series of Poker without investing much on the buy-in or entry fee?
Chris Moneymaker earned his in 2003. Then he went on to win $2.5 million. Now, he's on the list of World Series of Poker winners. He spent only a total of $40 on the buy-in and the entry fee.
Since then, many tried their luck and skill at online poker satellite tournaments. How much one would spend on the buy-in and the entry fee depend on the type of satellite tournament one is joining in.
In comparison to land-based tournaments, however, buy-in amount and entry fees to online poker satellite tournaments are, generally, minimal. If land-based satellite tournament requires ten thousand dollars for the buy-in, an online poker satellite tournament may charge only about a hundred dollars.
Online poker satellite tournaments come in three major forms.
Standard satellite is the most known of the online poker satellite tournaments out there. Standard satellites earn by charging entry fees. The total buy-in amount is used to avail slots at the World Series of Poker.
For instance, if the buy-in is $200 and the entry fee is $20 and a hundred players join in, the total buy-in would be 20 thousand dollars. The online poker room earns two thousand dollars from the entry fee. The 20 thousand-dollar sum will be utilized to purchase seats at the Word Series of Poker.
Money add-in satellites are the second major category of online poker satellite tournaments. With money add-in online poker satellite tournaments, one need not pay for the entry fee. The number of seats to be awarded are already determined.
If not enough players register to complete the amount to purchase the promised number of WSOP seats, the online poker room will fund the lacking amount.
As such, the online poker room generally requires a large pool of tournament players to reach its quota of WSOP seats without having to add necessarily to the purchase money.
Freeroll tournaments are the third major category of online poker satellite tournaments. Freeroll tournaments do not require entry fees or buy-ins. Most of the time, however, entry to a freeroll tournament is gained by earning loyalty bonus points or deposit bonus points.
To join the World Series of Poker, you need to have a hefty bankroll for the entry fee and the buy-in. If you want to go the satellite tournament way, why spend much on land-based tournaments what you can achieve at ten times less in online poker rooms. Playing and winning online poker satellite tournaments are a low-stake way of obtaining a World Series of Poker seat. You have little to lose and a lot to win.
